Claire Eberwein has been elected chairman of the Alexandria School Board, effective July 1, 2007.
Ms. Eberwein, a former City Council member, was a key mover in the group of five board members who declined to renew Superintended Rebecca Perry's contract last month.
Will Ms. Eberwein's next step be to recall former Superintendent Herb Berg?
And will Jefferson-Houston make AYP this year? Some neighbors are reading the tea leaves and saying it looks iffy.

She will eat Campbell alive. JH will never close. Her goal is to return whites to the school system and to do that Eberwein needs a parking place for special ed and other difficult types.

Hey, what happened to the post about Jefferson-Houston making AYP? I know I read it a few days ago.
The Jefferson-Houston AYP story has been pulled because the reader who passed the information along apparently misinterpreted the state Department of Education Web site.
Which is easy to do, because the state Web site shows Jefferson-Houston made AYP for "2006-2007." Apparently the scores from from the spring testing determine the school's standing for the following academic year. So when the results come out later this summer, they will be for "2007-2008."
